DeLibero apologizes in church

Copyright 2000 Houston Chronicle Metropolitan Transit Authority President Shirley DeLibero went to church Sunday seeking forgiveness amid rumors of her imminent firing. "Some years ago, I overstated my educational background on my résumé," DeLibero told the congregation at the Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. She said that although she was not hired by Metro based on her résumé, "it was wrong to not have corrected it over the years." "I did not come here today to make excuses," she said. "What I did was not right. I'm here today to say that I regret my mistake and I ask your forgiveness and I ask to be kept in your prayers." The Rev. Bill Lawson, who introduced DeLibero to the congregation, hinted that her problems result partly from scrutiny directed toward her because of her race.......Lawson said that because DeLibero is a black woman, "it is not particularly a surprise to us that she is right now under siege."

I wonder what the right Reverend Lawson & his congregation would say if they knew what HOUSNITCH knows? Let's see if any of them read Housnitch Darlins ....

Did ya'll know that poor Sister Shirley, as executive Director of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), fired one Otis C. Tolbert? Mr. Tolbert was a long time employee of DART until 1990 when he passed along what he thought were some worrisome complaints under Sister Shirley's administration. Sister Shirley immediately began an investigation into Mr. Tolbert's background. Mr. Tolbert was fired/demoted by Sister Shirley. Mr. Tolbert immediately filed a "whistle blower" lawsuit screaming retaliation for exposing wrong doings, at which point Sister Shirley said he was fired/demoted  because she had found that Mr. Tolbert had lied on his resume. (no! say it isn't so!) 

It appears that the state didn't believe her, because damages were awarded in that 1991 lawsuit to Mr. Tolbert. among the defendants ordered to pay damages to him were Sister Shirley. But now get this Darlins ...... seems Mr. Otis C. Tolbert is a black man. A Brother, hey! Brother Lawson .....  where's the racism card now????

Isn't that just like a pot to call a kettle... oh, my,  we better not say that, HOUSNITCH will be branded a racist.

Used to be, (since the days of Benedict Arnold we've been told ) there was another old saying ...."Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels", under the administration of Lee. Period P. Period, you can say, "Racism is the last refuge of scoundrels"..... IF there is no honesty, no integrity, no standard for doing business .... NO MATTER what your color, your sex or your religion, what the hell are we all doing here?

Housnitch is FOR affirmative action, Housnitch is against racism (hell this editor has fought for Civil Rights for more than 26 years), but ever since this man became our Mayor, any time any one of color is caught doing something wrong .... they automatically scream racism. It's time we said NO MORE! 

Lee Period P. Period kept his mouth shut while the DNC attacked this city time after time claiming that George W. Bush had made Houston the worst city in which to live. Democrat that this editor is, Lee Period P. Period  (a known Democrat) is responsible for our city's woes....and no one else. He never defended our city to the DNC, & he quickly jumps to the defense of this liar. 

 Let's talk real straight here, guys. This editor is gonna say what everyone is afraid to say out loud ...  Shirley DeLibero didn't make a MISTAKE, she INTENTIONALLY LIED on her resume, to gain a position or advancement that she didn't qualify for UNLESS she had those degrees.

She's really sorry NOW, Now that she's been caught, but if no one had caught her, that resume would still be sitting there with those lies on it, and she'd still be giving speeches about how hard she as a single parent had to work & get her college education.

(This editor wonders....how many times Sister Shirley has actually been in attendance to Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, outside of asking for support for a program that she wanted help passing?)

That Pastors, men of the cloth would stand & condone her lying, even excuse it, provide a reason for it, then turn it back as "racist", makes me really worried about the moral compass of these "so called " leaders, and the direction they are leading their followers.

It's time we took our city back, back to the basics of honesty & integrity. November 2001 can't come soon enough. ANYBODY BUT BROWN!!!!!......

RECALL?

Former Fire Chief Lester Tyra may be on vacation, but he's left our poor firemen , and thus the city in huge jeopardy...... That "buddy" deal he made for those E-One fire engines is believed to have placed our men (who are so short handed that we only have 3 men on each piece of equipment when we should have 4), that their very lives are in danger just entering the vehicles. 

We've reported here about the bad frames, and the doors not opening, but now comes a letter to us saying that the FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD #302 is in violation.

FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD #302 --- Flammability of interior materials -- passenger cars, multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks & buses (effective 9-1-72)  This standard specifies burn resistance requirements for materials used in occupant compartments of motor vehicles. Its purpose is to reduce death & injuries to motor vehicle occupants caused by vehicle fires. especially those originating in the interiors of the vehicle from sources such as matches & cigarettes. WHAT ABOUT FLYING CINDERS FROM A FIRE IN PROGRESS????????

This next story is so hard to do. The paperwork & documents are as tall as a man. The bottom line...."just get right down to it" story is, that the City of Houston, under Lee Period P. Period, has been selling homes under the "First Time Homebuyers" program that are full of LEAD BASED PAINT. Mayor says it's not up to him to see that the homes are lead free, it's just up to the city to get the federal funds & spend them in a timely manner.

THE MAN WHO SAYS HE HAS DEDICATED HIS ADMINISTRATION TO THE CHILDREN OF HOUSTON, is responsible for making more of them sick than any other human being in this city. Read the following document~~~>

Anthony Hall confirmed that it wasn't up to us to see that the contractors were legitimate who said the homes were clean when they weren't. Housnitch isn't a lawyer......but DON'T WE HAVE A CONTRACT COMPLIANCE DIVISION???????

MR. TOM BAZAN has fought this administration for almost 3 years trying to get a LEAD BASED PAINT ORDINANCE on the books.......but too many of the bad guys in the real estate lobby, don't want it. And unfortunately they contribute LOTS of money to the Mayor's campaign.

EVEN AFTER IDENTIFYING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM....THAT CHILDREN WERE SICK, THE MAYOR REFUSED TO NOTIFY THE HOMEBUYERS SAYING IT WAS TOO MUCH WORK, TO LET THE PARENT'S KNOW THAT THEIR CHILDREN WERE AT RISK.

DR. PAM BERGER ADMITTED LAST OCTOBER, THAT TOO MANY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS LEAD-POISONED, WHO RESIDE IN HOMES THAT HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED AS PARTICIPATING IN THE "HOMEBUYERS" PROGRAM. SHE HAD NO IDEA HOW MANY ARE POISONED, SINCE, AS AN EXAMPLE, DR. WILLIAM HAROLD MACK WAS CAUGHT COLLECTING HHS/CDC PAYMENTS FOR CHILDREN'S LEAD-BLOOD TESTS THAT WERE NOT PREFORMED. 

WE CITIZENS DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER....THIS EDITOR WILL SAY IT AGAIN.....

As a Hispanic and as a Hispanic Community Activist I was appalled at the comments made at a News Conference on 11/06/2000 by minority community leaders which included teacher’s union president, law makers, union leaders and others. It appears that in trying to get the heat off Shirley DeLibero for lying about her educational qualities, they are doing a terrible disservice to the very same people they purport to represent. How can these leaders and especially the ministers try to justify lying by saying that it should not matter because she is doing a good job at METRO? Lena Guerrero (Lotto Texas Director) was doing a good job too, but, she still lied about her educational qualifications and was fired. She too apologized and was fired anyway. How is this situation different? Is there a double standard for Black and Hispanic? Shirley DeLibero must also apologize to all taxpayers and then be fired, as was Lena Guerrero.

Must I point out to the clergy that lying is still a sin? (They can check their bibles, it hasn’t changed) Must I also remind all those leaders that in effect the message they are promoting to our young generation is that lying is OK especially if you are politically connected. "SHAME ON THEM" Lying is lying and there are consequences to be paid for lying. Must I also remind Mayor Brown that his so-called "dedication of his administration to the children" doesn’t mean anything if he condones lying by people that he has appointed to boards and commissions. Is Mayor Brown also saying it is OK to lie?

What is even more shameful is to try to play the race card on this issue while trying to defend DeLibero. Race has nothing to do with it, it’s about ethics, integrity and honesty. If you don’t want to be caught up in a lie about your educational qualifications, Don’t Lie!!!!.

Now is the time for true leaders to step forward and do what’s right (which effects everyone) and quit worrying about doing the right thing (which is political and affects very few) and lead by example.

I am personally glad that you are writing those articles about how unfair the
City of Houston is ran.  It seems as if you can get away with anything if you
have the right "connections"...Sister Shirley is wrong.... She should be
fired and not allowed to return to her duties, because if she had the right
to fire other employees, because they lied on their resumes', what right does
she have to judge!!!!!!! She also is a liar!!!!  As stated...Is she a member
of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, or did she go there for forgiveness?  The next question is, will she attend the church again? NOT Forgiveness I don't think so, what about the people lives she has destroyed....

Now the ends and outs of City Hall... Why haven't Mayor Lee P. Brown gotten to the racist remarks made by one of the top people in Public Works and Engineering, the renown Dr. Doug Wiersig!!!!!  If you ask me the top "dogs" don't care how they treat the lower ranked employees, they are the ones that are doing all of the work for the good of the citizens of Houston, but all of this goes unnoticed.  I agree with Housnitch we need a fair Government not just idle talk!!!!

Do you realize that the Houston Fire Department has 14 Assistant Chiefs and
the TriData report said it needed only 5.  That money could have been used
for equipment and safety gear for firefighters.  Appointing JUNIOR CAPTAINS
as assistant chiefs is the way to get the good ole' boys rolling again.  The
X union president who is really a junior captain is now an assistant.  Why
have you not addressed this point.  How would it work if in the military a
private would booted up to a Captain?  Lester Tyra paid all his friends off
by giving them positions that they could not handle.  See how all this is
hurting the department!

Brenda:  Have heard about your site but have just visited it for the first time.  Love what you are doing.  Hope you can keep it up.  Am moved to
contribute what I consider a disgrace for the city.  A couple years ago I was involved with the city project to extend Belfort St. south of astroworld.  There are numerous wetlands in the area and the road was designed to go through some of them.  The piece of the road immediately east of Fannin destroyed about an acre of more of wetlands.  Most people must apply for
and receive a permit from the corps of Engineers to destroy wetlands and there are usually certain conditions when they do.. When the engineer was asked about this, his response was "were the city and we are
not bound by the corps rules".  I find this very arrogant for the city to operate this way and I am not sure it is true.  Further to the east where another engineer was involved in destroying some small insignificant areas, they did apply and get a permit like everybody else.  What I would like to know is why the city claims two different things depending on where  they are working and why the corps of engineers allow such a thing when they really come down hard on the little guy that transgresses their rules. 

That's it for now.  Keep up the good work..  When I can see my way clear of a few of my bills, I will be glad to contribute to your site to keep it alive.

The fine and vacation given to this "Holier than thou" woman  will still
require the local taxpayers to pay her more than the president of the U. S.
And, she gets a pension from New Jersey which amounts to about 3 times what the average transit worker earns from hard work. She and Metro's Board Members think she's better than other transit workers.The transit workers should strike until she's gone.

What she and Lee Pee are promoting is the world's most dangerous street car system for the downtown streets. Bus riders will be forced to ride the
streetcars only to  walk farther and wait longer. The queen and Lee Pee are
doing the taxpayers a gigantic disservice in the name of "Black Pride." The
poor blacks will suffer from "Black Shame" if theses two power struck
egotists are allowed to remain in power.

AS WE STATED ABOVE .... ANYBODY BUT BROWN IN 2001!!!!!!

Year after year officers are voluteering their time at the Police Memorial and year after year the condition of the "so called office" gets worse. This year officers get an added bonus due to the A/C actually working for a change. The chair at the facility is broken and doesn't have a back on it. An added insult is the fact that officers from the patrol divisions are not being asked by their supervisors to skip roll call or leave early enough to relieve other officers on time. Clearlake Patrol seems to be the habitual favorite to win the "we are late by design" award. Why not build an office at the location that
would allow Central officers a place to do reports and also allow for
the building a real bathroom with running water...The Porto-Potty at the
location is nasty and not one of the perks....That's right there are no
perks.....
HOUSNITCH went to visit this site.....it's actually a utility room. not even 3'X3'. Inmates in jail have more room than we have given our volunteers. We asked a couple of friends to give us an estimate as to how much it would cost to make this location large enough for an office. A real office, with a desk, a computer, and a site large enough that policemen on patrol could use it as a site to phone in, log in reports, giving the area a higher police visibility other than just the lone officer. Estimates are between $5000 and  $7000 . Not too much for our guys in blue. We asked Councilmember Bell to help us with this guys. We have placed a call to Sgt. Johnson, to see if we can find who the original committee was that built the Memorial. We will continue to pursue this effort in order to support you guys who do so much for us. Those readers who have NOT been to the Memorial's site, you really should. Officers & the visiting Public from all over the world have left poems, notes, and writings. Ask the officer on duty if you can see the sign-in book. The comments & writings will bring a tear to your eye, put a lump in your throat, and a tightness in your chest, and remind you all, that these men & women are really human just like the rest of us.

These volunteers, sit in that little box, with out even a door that locks, in tribute to men & women who gave their lives, protecting YOURS. Stop by, the police Memorial on Memorial Dr. and thank the person on duty..
