We are the nameless , faceless city, county, state, federal, and corporate taxpaying citizens & workers who are sick of the "good ole boy system" here in Houston, Texas --We were born on 7-30-1999. We are --- married & single-male & female, maintenance worker to Deputy Directors. We are the faceless civil servants who year after year do our job. We are the one's who see the hard earned tax $$s of the citizens in this area used & abused and given away to enrich a few greedy people with each new administration.

THAT IT HAS COME DOWN TO THESE TWO IS NOT WHAT MAKES THIS ISSUE SO HARD. IT'S THE GARBAGE BEING GENERATED BY SOME FIREFIGHTER'S THAT MAKES THIS SO VERY HARD. SEE FOR YOURSELF GUYS ....

Subject: o.i.g. the mayors pit bulls
Well the Mayors Pit Bulls are lose again ( O.I.G.), this time attacking the Fire Department Dispatch Office.
Seems that the Mayor Lee P. is on a wanted poster that was found on a bulletin board in the dispatch office.
The Mayor is wanted for the murder of Jay Jahnke, that is all.
So we waste the manpower and the investigative  talents of the officers in the Office of the Inspector General, what about the Wanted poster of Bin Ladin he hasn't been truly proven guilty of the Deaths of the citizens of New York.
That is why the computers were taken up from some of the fire stations and the dispatch office, looking on the hard drives for evidence on who is the master mind behind this terrorist act of slandering our beloved Mayor Lee P.

WE LOVE THE O.I.G. (and we think Bin Laden has been proven guilty)

LOCAL 341 UNION PRESIDENT STEVE WILLIAMS SAYS HE HAS KNOWN OF THE FLYER FOR SEVERAL WEEKS , AND IN FACT AGREES WITH IT ...

HAVE A LOOK AT SOME MORE GARBAGE THAT SOME FIREFIGHTERS ARE PASSING AROUND TO THEIR BROTHER FIREFIGHTERS IN THE BLACK CAUCUS ......

STEVE WILLIAMS SAYS HE HAD HEARD THAT OTIS JORDAN HAD RECEIVED A LETTER, BUT THAT HE HAD NOT SEEN IT. HE WENT ONTO SAY THAT HOUSNITCH HAD TO UNDERSTAND ''EMOTIONS ARE RUNNING HIGH''

I UNDERSTAND EMOTIONS RUNNING HIGH....BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND RACISM. FROM A GROUP OF MEN & WOMEN I ALWAYS CONSIDERED HEROES? AND I'M GREATLY DISAPPOINTED IN YOUR LACK OF LEADERSHIP MR. WILLIAMS.

AND FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER ....  I AM ACTUALLY AFRAID OF WHICH KIND OF FIREMAN MIGHT COME TO MY AID OR MY CHILDREN'S IF WE NEEDED ONE.

I HOPE THE O.I.G. FINDS THE GUILTY PARTIES AND PROSECUTES THEM UNDER THE HATE CRIME LAWS.

Dear friends,
As you know, I have worked over 30 years to empower the Latino community in Houston.  It is for me a sad time that now, that we have a Latino candidate in a mayoral race, I must work to defeat him.  In good conscience I cannot support Orlando Sanchez.
His voting record is clear---a vote for Sanchez is a vote against the Latino community.  His position is clear-a vote for Sanchez is a vote against  Latino immigrants.
To those of us who have worked for decades in the defense and protection of the most vulnerable in our midst- undocumented immigrants-Orlando Sanchez is, historically, the first political candidate, in Houston in recent times, to use undocumented immigrants in the same way that former California Pete Wilson did-as scapegoats for social ills.

All of his political career, he has been forthright in saying, that as an immigrant, he is the only one who cannot be reproached because he refuses to support immigrants in our community who entered without authorization.

On October 12, 1993(Dia de la Raza), the Houston Chronicle "Election
Notebook" reported:

"Candidate raises immigration issue.  Probation officer Orlando Sanchez, a native of Cuba, is trying to set himself apart for other candidates for the District C seat on the Houston City Council by talking about immigrants.

Sanchez said city officials need to take leadership role in getting the
federal government to deport illegal immigrants.  The probationers he
supervises tell him that half the gang members in southwest Houston came
here illegally, he explained.
'As a legal immigrant to this country, I am embarrassed by the behavior of
some of the illegal immigrants,' he said.  But Sanchez charged that city
officials don't speak out about the problem because they are afraid of being accused of ethnic bias.

Sanchez said his message to city officials is, 'It's OK, your not offending anyone, at least not this immigrant.'

O'Connor said Sanchez is way off base.  Goodner's staff helped open a storefront police operation and a city clinic in the area, she said"

In 1997, Orlando Sanchez opposed safety zone resolutions similar to those passed in Austin, Dallas, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco that would ensure city services for all Houston residents, regardless of immigration status.

In a story in the Houston Chronicle on June 29, 1997:

As the 1996 welfare bill now stands, certain federal, state and local agencies must tell the INS about immigrants 'known to be unlawfully in the United States

The safety zone plan would not challenge those laws.  But in areas they do not cover, Houston would ensure equal access to services, said attorney Gordon Quan, who helped draft the measure.

'We are not asking the city to defy the federal government,' Quan said. 'We're just trying to head off anybody thinking they're going to make themselves immigration inspectors because they have a government position.'

Although the plan calls for its policies to be 'consistent with federal and state law,' Sanchez said he believes it would interfere with his oath to uphold federal and local laws against illegal immigration.

In the same article cited above, Mayor Lee Brown, on city services to all residents, regardless of immigration status, stated:
''I believe immigration is not a Hispanic issue, it's a social justice issue," Lee said. "For immigrants, the (questions) are the same: Can I access health providers? Will I be reported?"

In 2000, he refused to make the Office of Immigration and Refugee Affairs a line item on the budget.

In good conscience, I cannot and will not support Orlando Sanchez for Mayor.

A vote for Orlando Sanchez is a vote against Latino/ALL immigrant families.

It is a vote against the principle that all human beings are equal in dignity.

MARIA JIMENEZ

IN THE AREAS OF  IMMIGRATION WE HAVE:
· Instituted the Mayor's Office of Immigrant & Refugee Affairs (MOIRA)
· "Justice & Equality in the Workplace" Program - Partnered (MOIRA) with the Consulate General of Mexico, MALDEF, EEOC, U.S. Department of Labor to ensure the safety, protection, and non-exploitation of all persons in the work place.
· COH Day Labor Sites
· Raided the Taxi Dancing sites where underage girls were being exploited.
ORLANDO · Voted against MOIRA
· OPPOSED the formation of a COH "Safety Zone" to ensure the safety and protection of immigrants (Houston Chronicle, Sunday, June 29, 1997, Section A, Page 33, "Immigrants feel Heat and helping hand as well / 'Safety Zone' is urged to ensure immigrants access to city services.")
· Voted against COH Day Labor Site
· SUPPORTS DEPORTATION OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.  (Houston Chronicle, Tuesday, October 12, 1993, Section A, Page 14:
"Sanchez said city officials need to take a leadership role in getting the federal government to deport illegal immigrants. The probationers he supervises tell him that half the gang members in southwest Houston came here illegally, he explained.
'As a legal immigrant to this country, I am embarrassed by the behavior of some of the the illegal immigrants,' he said. But Sanchez charged that city officials don't speak out about the problem because they are afraid of being accused of ethnic bias."
ORLANDO
· Never identified himself as an "immigrant" until now.
· In past six years, never active with Latino community.
· In past six years, never was an active champion of Latino Issues.
·   Fought against MOIRA,  After School Programs & Day Labor Sites
· Did not work hard to count Latinos in Census 2000.  Non-existent.
· Has not fought for fair and adequate Latino representation on Redistricting.
· Earned name of "Orlando 'Pete Wilson' Sanchez" by Latino community activists.
· Member of Republican Party who DENIED Drivers Licenses to all Residents of the State of Texas.
· ANTI-IMMIGRANT Record (see above Houston Chronicle articles).

Quoted from MARIA JIMENEZ, activist of Latino immigrant community:
"When Sanchez first ran (time of Pete Wilson), he was the first local political figure to blame social problems in the Southwest on the undocumented Central American population.  He declared violence was inherent in Central Americans because they came from a violent environment so they were responsible for an increased crime rate in the Gulfton area (Houston Post, 1993).  That earned him the name of Orlando 'Pete Wilson' Sanchez.

In 1996, Sanchez did not support the proposal of the Houston Immigrant & Refugee Coalition for passage of a Safe City Resolution, which was a statement that the city would continue to serve the undocumented population.  At the time, the Chicago, San Francisco, Austin, Dallas,  had one.  New York fought for one. Sanchez refused to support it.

When the AFL-CIO wanted to redress the discrimination suffered by Hispanic construction workers on city sites, his only response was making a declaration that he supported all Hispanics, but he did NOTHING - nothing proactive to resolve this issue.  The AFL-CIO then solved this issue by working with Mayor Brown.

In order to ensure fair attention to immigrants and refugees, we sought the establishment of an office of immigrants & refugee affairs, but Orlando Sanchez OPPOSED it.  The reason the formation of the office was an "executive order" is because Orlando Sanchez refused to support (not a line-item in the city budget).  This office is NOT a permanent entity within the city government.  If Sanchez is elected, he may abolish this office."

GIVEN THE CHOICES BETWEEN 2 EVILS.....HOUSNITCH IS GOING TO VOTE FOR THE LESSER OF THE KNOWN EVILS...

NOBODY BUT BROWN IN 2001!

LET'S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE  Housing and Community Development Department

The Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) mission is to provide leadership in the preservation, revitalization and improvement of Houston's low and moderate income neighborhoods by: (1) expanding the supply of safe, quality, affordable housing; (2) improving the infrastructure; (3) providing financial inducement to encourage economic development and (4) by providing the social and other supportive services necessary for viable neighborhoods. To maximize our results, we will leverage our personal, financial and other resources by combining our funds and efforts with those from the public, private and non-profit sectors for the benefit of the citizens of Houston.

Margie L. Bingham, Director

WE UNDERSTOOD THERE WAS A HIRING FREEZE ON AT THIS POINT IN TIME...OBVIOUSLY, MARGIE BINGHAM AND HER DEPARTMENT DOESN'T HAVE TO ABIDE BY IT...

WITH THIS NEW DEPUTY DIRECTOR'S POSITION...THE FLOW OF AUTHORITY IN THIS MOSTLY FEDERALLY FUNDED DEPARTMENT IS...

NOW....HOUSNITCH'S QUESTION....(OUTSIDE THE AUTHORITY TO CREATE THIS POSITION) IS THIS...

PUBLIC RECORDS SHOW THAT  THESE WOMEN ALSO SHARE A PERSONAL BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP ...THAT IS, THEY ALL OWN COMPANIES TOGETHER IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR....AND THESE BUSINESSES ALL APPEAR TO BE IN THE SAME AREA OF FUNCTIONING AS DO THESE WOMEN'S JOBS WITH THE CITY....ISN'T THIS A HUGE CONFLICT OF INTEREST?....AND ISN'T THERE A POTENTIAL/APPEARANCE OF UTILIZATION/DIRECTING OF FEDERAL FUNDS, TO THESE PRIVATE BUSINESSES?...

Brenda,

As a former employee in the city's housing department I would like to share
the following comments with you from first hand experience;

>>Margie Bingham is uniformly despised throughout the city and even with
>>HUD.  She is in the enviable position of being a true untouchable, a black
>>female with ties to a federal program who claims to be a republican

>>Margie has always run the department to her own benefit and that of her
>>friends.  Daisey Steiner (Bingham got her a key job with the state) and
>>Margie Quence, both in key positions making big salaries,as are long time
>>friends like George Valdez (as assistant director who's sole job is to be
>>the token Hispanic manager), Daniel Martinez, Paulette Wagner, and a
>>number of other long time employees.

>>The department's track record under Bingham is dismal.  The sole objective
>>Margie and her crew has is to be sure and spend all the millions of
>>federal dollars the city receives each year.  No one cares how much good
>>the money does, just spend it.  Who gets most of the money?  Business
>>associates of Bingham and of course the mayor.

>>There are so many failed projects that Bingham has a pat answer when HUD
>>questions her about what went wrong:  that (project) is another example of
>>a failed social experiment.  Never mind that other cities make them work,
>>they just don't work in Houston.

>>Bingham is despised even by mayor Brown.  During last year's annual
>>community development week, she was not even included in any of the public
>>relation appearances scheduled by the mayor!  In fact, she had no idea
>>what was going on!

>>Bingham is responsible for the wasting of millions and millions of federal
>>dollars.  Can anyone truly give us examples of how much good is derived
>>from the money the city has received from HUD for the last 20 years?  Or
>>better still, since Margie became director 10 years ago?

>>Margie is an outspoken racist.  I have first hand knowledge of some of the
>>remarks she makes about whites in her infamous closed door meetings.  She
>>despises whites in particular and tolerates Hispanics only as a political
>>necessity.  How may you ask did George Valdez get to be an assistant
>>director, the only Hispanic to ever hold a senior management position in
>>the housing department, with so little to do that he spends his days in
>>the barrio doing public relations?  Why George HIRED Margie!

Margie Bingham is a prime example of the city bureaucracy and incompetence at
its extreme worse and yet she remains.

SO IT SEEMS

"If there is no struggle. There is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder & lightening. The want the ocean without the awful roar of it’s many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral & physical; but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand."
