HOUSNITCH

09/06/00
We are taking this day to answer some of the questions we are receiving.....and to bring you a look at some of our mail. We have deleted most names sent to us so that we may keep up the anonymous nature we so fiercely guard.
First of all, WE are various civil servants, working for the city, a couple from the county some from state & federal government offices here in Houston, Texas. WE are tired of seeing our tax dollars wasted & people placed in positions of authority who don't belong there. The "good ole boy" system of rewarding campaign supporters with a position in our government has to stop. WE who actually do the work of this city have tried to access all avenues available to us in order to right the wrongs but to no avail. So now...we're taking it to the people. Hopefully as we get better at this we will be able to provide you with better links to your elected officials so that you can help US make a change for the better.
Second, we are not computer experts, we are trial &
error...so with time we can only get better. WE are working on an archive
system....hopefully we'll get it right.
(We're
learning graphics!!)
Thirdly---WE have to thank all of you for sending us documents----the verifying process is arduous so please bear with us.....we do have day jobs!

For those of you who have asked to advertise on our web page----we're thinking about it---3000 hits a day is pretty good, but we do not know if our sponsor wants the added burden of keeping books & charging for advertising...(even if we could figure out how to do it!).

The majority of our mail has been positive---here are some examples:

I thought you might enjoy this as it pertains to what you are trying to get
out to the public.
A crow was sitting on a tree, doing nothing all day. A small rabbit saw the
crow, and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing all
day long?"
The crow answered: "Sure, why not." So, the rabbit sat on the ground below
the crow, and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit
and ate it.
Moral of the story is:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.
WE LOVE IT!!!!

Hi,
I just heard about your efforts thru the Jon Mathews radio
talk show. Good effort on your website....sorry I missed
what you published before...but I got the point from
your link to the Houston Press Site.
COMMENT:
In your current posting, it's obvious that the letter
writer and resolution writer did not pass the "TAAS"
tests. Send them back for remedial training.
Thank you for your comments & checking in with us!

A gentle word of advice. You may want to "bcc" your e-mail recipients.
I know this is going to sound very corny, but I have this very old quote I keep in my purse and I know you'll appreciate:
"The ultimate test of a man is not where he stands on positions of comfort and convenience but where he stands on positions of challenge and controversy. So on some questions cowardice asks, 'Is a position safe?' Expediency asks, 'Is the position politic?' Vanity asks, 'Is the position popular?' But conscience asks, 'Is the position RIGHT?'" -- Dr. Martin Luther King
Thank you, we're learning about bcc's and we used your quote on one of our pages---we love it and have it hanging over our work area
